“This issue you can assemble the rear axle and linkages. Then, over the following [packs] you will see how to fit the transmission shaft and rear wheels to the axle, leaving it ready to be attached to the chassis.

Parts

This image includes the parts for the entire issue. However, the parts included with this pack are:

  • Rear Axle
  • Rear Axle Back Plate
  • Supporting Linkages

Materials: All of these parts are plastic.

Screws

This pack comes with three bags of unlabeled screws containing the following type(s):

  • Two (2) Type E – We’ve seen these before
  • Eleven (11) Type W – These are a NEW type of screw (see below)
  • Three (3) Type Y – We’ve seen these before too

Rear Axle

Fit the longer posts of each of the four Supporting Linkages into these holes on either end of the Rear Axle, as shown.

Each of the Supporting Linkages has a longer post on one end. This is the post we fit into the matching holes of the Rear Axle. Make sure these are facing towards the front of the car (like the long snout of the differential):

Secure the Supporting Linkages into place with four (4) Type W screws, two on each end:

Next, fit the Rear Axle Back Plate to the Rear Axle, aligning the locating pin and screw holes, as shown:

Secure the Rear Axle Back Plate into place from the other side with two (2) Type W screws:

Thoughts


I am surprised these parts are all plastic as similar parts in all of my other vehicle builds are metal. That means the weight of this car will be supported by a plastic tube. I suppose we should be careful with this one. Keep this Rear Axle assembly nearby as we will need it in the next pack.
